Papers do not jump, people often say. But you can not deny that show jumping qualities are hereditary. At least, that is what Tom De Craene believes. With his Stal Den Bisschop in Melle he is possibly the biggest breeder in Belgium. This year he saw the birth of 58 foals, but he still looks at every one of them individually. The broodmare Cartonga Z (Carthago x Grand Canyon) was partnered with Air Jordan Alpha Z to accumulate the show jumping potential. A daughter out of the same mare, Joyce vd Bisschop, was sold at Woodland’s International Auction two years ago. Sire Air Jordan Alpha Z is, of course, the clone of Air Jordan Z, who finished second in the World Cup Finals in Las Vegas. Grandsire Carthago Z started in two Olympics under Jos Lansink before also developing a reputation in breeding.
